A psych professor of mine said that children in his generation played a game called "Pass Out," where you simply held your breath until you passed out. In some instances, they would get assistance from a friend. He claimed that it was because of this game that he wasn't Nobel Prize material today.
This was mildly amusing to the class. Little did we know that even in this day and age, with countless entertainment options, children are doing it even more dangerously. It's a travesty.
Parents, please make sure your kids know they have something safer and more fun to do. Keep an eye on their social lives and warn them against caving to peer pressure on this one.
