Kitty Update

This came to me via email from my mom:

Having seen "Hello Kitty" referred to as Japan's "ubiquitous ambassador of cute," I must tell you we have an alternative A of C nominee in our house (if less ubiquitous). Last night and tonight Molly has taken to chasing the tip of her tail, kitten style, and it's a riot to watch, as big as she is.

Last night she barreled into the corner of the "island" in the kitchen doing that and then tried to look cool, like "I meant to do that," but we weren't fooled. Tonight I watched her literally do 2 backwards somersaults chasing her tail, something that I'm not sure I've ever even seen a kitten do. I guess she's feeling secure enough in her new home environment to let her silly side show.

We will try to take some digital pics soon because we'll want some "before" shots to compare to the "after," when she loses more weight. Per vet's recommendation, we are feeding her kitten or indoor cat food, lower in fat and calories than most, 3 oz. per meal. I looked at the indoor cat food can and it says to feed the cat 1 can per 5-7 pounds of weight per day. Now, Molly is 14 lb. 10 oz., but she's getting a total of 1 can a day. The vet assumed she would beg for more, but she's such a sweetie; she doesn't complain or beg. I think maybe she's just so happy to be cage-free, eating "tasty" wet cat food, and getting love that she's satisfied, and her weight should come down by itself this way. She's getting more accustomed to being picked up too, but we have to remember to keep doing that so she gets even more used to it.

That's my kitty update. :)
