Anyone know why my (Sprint) phone sometimes randomly plays the tune it's supposed to play only when starting up? I'm pretty sure it's already on when that happens, because I didn't hear it turn off. It's most likely to play the tune when I'm traveling, whether by car or on foot, so maybe this is a matter of reception. The growing frequency (NPI) of the phenomenon leads me to believe that the phone is weakening with age.

Are you sure it's not the sound it plays when it (re)gains reception?

Like you said, it's probably because it's getting weaker with age, and if it's getting less of a signal (especially when travelling) it'll be dropping and regaining reception pretty often.

Almost sounds like you'll need to replace it soon; how old is it?

Dates back to spring 2006. Guess I will replace it.

That's strange, I didn't think a phone that young should have problems like that this early.
