Years ago, Bill Holbrook was putting together the twelfth "Kevin & Kell" collection, Yo Momma, so called because it covers the period that introduced Kevin's mom. Bill asked his readers to send jokes in the "yo momma" insult format, with the twist of them making a lot more sense in the context of a world of anthropomorphic animals.

I sent in maybe a dozen entries, and Bill emailed me his appreciation. After that, I forgot about them. Yesterday I could remember only one: "Yo momma drools so much, the EPA is protecting her puddles." In retrospect, that might have been too applicable as a human insult.

Well, this month I finally gained the initiative to buy the collection, partly to sponsor Bill and partly to satisfy my curiosity. The winners definitely show traces of his sense of humor. I won't tell you any others, since he and the publisher wouldn't appreciate me giving too much for free online, but one of my jokes was indeed included. I have no memory of writing it, but I believe it.

To a frog: "Yo momma caught a pop fly with her tongue hoping it was Coke-flavored."

It's not quite on par with when I got a fan cartoon published in the ninth collection, Straight Outta Computers (had I even started this LJ yet?), but between this and the Style Invitational, I have to get in the habit of following up on my entries.
