Being involved in school musical productions and the friend of a few teachers, my mom gets some local public school news faster than others. This time she heard that the school board planned to start the next school year as early as August 14th. We can think of only one reason: the board has many new members from outside the district, and somebody wanted a schedule similar to that of their home state. My mom predicted a widespread outcry once the word got around. Within a couple of days, she was proven right.

Even under new outside leadership, the DCPS appalls me. I'm glad I don't have to put up with it anymore.
