Direct from the Cat Star...
Ashkitty asked for a sonnet about alien kitties. Naturally, I obliged:
If women are from Venus, men from Mars,
Then what celestial body gave us cats?
Perhaps they traveled past a hundred stars
In search of someplace filled with fish and rats.
Perhaps some kitties stayed in outer space,
With forebears not unlike the Terran ilk.
They might have three-antenna’d mice to chase.
Their “flying saucers” might be used for milk.
Perhaps they get to bask in two bright suns.
Perhaps they play with yarn in zero-Gs.
With laser claws, they’d have no need for guns.
With psychic whiskers, they’d avoid all fleas.
At any rate, I’m glad they came to Earth.
Their purry, furry presence gives me mirth.
Who wants another poem? Be sure to select the form as well as the subject. Or if you'd rather try your own hand at it, go ahead.
