For some reason -- probably too little sleep during NaNoWriMo -- I had forgotten until my mom called yesterday that I agreed to partake in the Help the Homeless Walkathon with her and my dad. Perhaps it's a good thing that I declined the same invitation from my church. I went ahead with it.

The most encouraging thing about it is the number of participants. That's also one of the most obnoxious things, if you're standing in line for something. We opted to wait until the end to check in -- which, it turns out, was unnecessary for those who registered online.

The walk didn't feel like a chore. The weather was nice for seeing Monumental Washington, if a bit chilly. We didn't wait a long, loudspeaker-dominated time to start or struggle with a backup like last year. I enjoyed it as a chance to converse a long time, especially with my dad; to see a few strangely dressed people, like the Tin Man on the Metro; and to see a variety of canines.

The one thing we'd really like to change is the start time. Even setting my alarm for my usual weekday time, I was cutting it close for a 9:00 entrance. Wouldn't they get greater turnouts if they moved it up just one hour? Seriously, what would it hurt?
