(no subject)

In just under five years, unless we get a surprise at the end of them, it will be a full century since the U.S. had a president with a mustache, a beard, or both. What gives? It's not like all styles of facial hair have been unfashionable since 1913. Besides, half the faces on Mt. Rushmore have distinctive facial hair. If McCain still wants us to think of the GOP as "the party of Abraham Lincoln" (as he called it in 2000), why not cultivate a vaguely similar appearance?

Oh, right. It might inspire an assassin.

Anyway, I just kinda miss the interesting appearances that dominate the presidential portraits of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. But I'd sooner like to see a president of the gender that almost never welcomes facial hair. (No, Hillary is not my first choice, nor do I expect she'd win the general election.)
