More than 100 years after it was made, Sergei Eisenstein's "Battleship Potemkin" is still shown in film schools and revered as a masterpiece of structure, composition and drama.

I won't dispute the independent clause here, but I knew right away that the film couldn't be that old. Sure enough, IMDb lists its year of release as 1925, and the trivia indicate that it was made not long before the release. The only way to make the sentence true, short of waiting 18 years, is for "it" to refer sloppily to the depicted ship itself (not the actual one on screen, since the original was dismantled before they started filming).
