1. I've grown fonder of Kieran. It's fun to have him chase a laser point, the only toy that doesn't bore him in seconds. The new spritzer is sufficient to ward him away from my food when I use it right (disciplining doesn't come naturally to me). He really likes to lie on me; by now he seems less concerned about going outside and more concerned about not being separated from me. Alas, he's still losing me a lot of sleep no matter what I do, I still have to hide a lot of things from him, and he'll surely make cartooning harder. Nothing tells me I'd really miss him if he left. At this point, the factor most likely to get me to keep him is a desire to better myself with compassion and responsibility at the cost of comfort.

2. Two nights ago, on what happened to be my mom's birthday, I ushered Daniel Beaty's Resurrection. With the highly billed music credits, we initially wondered whether it was a musical. There's some singing and background music, but it's mainly a sort of experimental drama. The 90-minute play has six actors, all black males, each having a different age that ends with 0 (from 10 to 60). They live in the same ghetto and have disparate, largely unhappy situations. If that sounds like nothing I haven't seen before, know that the presentation makes it fresh. The characters sometimes interact and sometimes individually tell their stories (often involving unseen characters) to the audience while the others stand out of the spotlight. Some things are described humorously, but with the overall intensity, this is in fact the first play I can remember moistening my eyes -- several times, at that. It's ultimately not depressing but inspiring.

3. My sister relates that the other day, she helped an elderly man add money to his Metro Smartrip card. He then said that ironically, he'd been the last Congressman to sign the bill that allowed the D.C. Metrorail system to begin its existence. We have not determined who that ex-Congressman was.
