With my parents away on vacation while their wooden floors are getting redone, I have been taking care of Molly at my residence since Saturday evening. Perhaps it's just as well that I haven't really been looking for another cat since I returned Kieran. I still have plenty of cat supplies.

And let me tell you, Molly is no Kieran. She's about ten times better for me, for several reasons:

1. She's middle-aged. Not much energy, except sometimes when I get out the laser pointer.

2. She has no feral history, or at least none in years. She doesn't whine at windows or try to go out the door -- even in the summer, according to my folks.

3. She's female. As a rule, males are more aggressive. Molly doesn't demand as much attention or try hard to eat my food.

4. She's declawed. While I wouldn't have it done to a cat, I do appreciate the results for the caretaker. Doesn't stop her from "scratching" the cardboard block I dug out on the correct suspicion that she'd like it.

5. She's healthier. No special medicine; just diet food.

6. We already knew each other a little. Molly takes time to warm up to people, but it's working.

The arrangement hasn't affected my routine terribly. Feeding her, brushing her, and cleaning her litter don't take much time. I won't put aside "Downscale" on account of her. The most noticeable changes are that I leave more doors open and keep the plastic bags hidden (she loves to chew them).

Molly goes home on Saturday. I might like to own a cat like her, tho I'm undecided on whether to introduce another to my small living space.
