I think my dad did better at the Oscar pool than usual, as would I if I'd entered. This is not altogether good news, tho: Unlike the apparent majority of viewers, I don't want it all that predictable. I also have mixed feelings about the near absence of montages, which saved time but didn't stimulate my movie geek cred.

I said before that The King's Speech was the worthiest entry I'd seen, and I stand by that. Still, part of me kinda hoped The Social Network would win, simply because the subject matter is so much trendier. There are times I wish the Academy seemed less stuffy.

Hathaway and Franco were a noble experiment, but I won't miss their barely funny hosting next year. Especially Franco -- so listless my sister thought he was stoned. I think the high point was the medley of musical remixes of movie dialog.

Missed opportunity: Inception won four awards, and none of the related acceptance speeches toyed with the possibility that this was a dream.
