In fiction, especially comedy, if something goes missing and somebody belches, we are to assume that the belcher just ate or drank it. Imagine if we applied the same logic to reality:

"Honey, did you see where I left my purse?"
"(Urp) Nope."
"WHAT?!"
"...What?"
