(no subject)
For weeks, I've been transcribing interviews freelance. It's harder than usual, partly because the client used audio cassettes. My mom lent me her boombox, but it couldn't rewind for more than a couple seconds. Best Buy had no remedy, and Radio Shack had exactly one. The client has agreed to buy it from me when I finish sometime in March, donating her old boombox to my mom.
Tapes are more trouble than I remembered. I have to play one nonstop from start to finish to know how long it is (since I charge by audio minute), then rewind all the way to transcribe. Initially I forgot to check the other side for more. It doesn't help that interviews were conducted over the phone, so many words are hard to make out.
The good thing about this work, besides what I'm earning, is what I'm learning. The interviews, which will help in writing a book, focus on "Soul Train" and primary host Don Cornelius.
...As of today, the late Don Cornelius. By his own hand, no less.
I can only imagine what this means for my client.
EDIT: Sounds like she's moving up the book deadline. I'd better pick up the pace. And probably charge by a different method.
