The Things We Get Used To
In ’89, there first appeared
A sitcom looking mighty weird.
The characters had bulging eyes
And upper lips of awkward size.
Whoever saw that kind of face?
Were they supposed to be from space?
What’s more, their skin was mustard-hued
From head to toe (we saw some nude).
The focal kids had “hair” that tone
In spikes containing bits of bone,
If X-ray scans did not deceive.
What might be harder to believe?
Their mother’s hair stood way too high
And always blue, no need for dye.
I could go on, but now I’m sure
You know exactly who they were.
