Bird-Brained Answer

We used to say to little kids that babes are brought by stork.
If you said that today, they might consider you a dork.
Myself, I always found the explanation incomplete.
I didn’t mind the thought of brainy birds; they’re rather neat,
But how the babies get here’s not exactly what I meant
In asking of their origin (and not from where they’re sent).
Instead, I meant to find out how they managed to exist.
It seems to be a nuance that the storytellers missed.
