Following the Money

I’m pretty sure I’ve figured out why folks say “do-re-mi”
In reference to money. First the “dough” was plain to see.
I find it more than likely that that term derived from “bread.”
That’s short for “bread and honey,” which is what the Cockneys said
As rhyming slang for money. Now I’m feeling some elation:
I rarely trace a word through four degrees of separation.
