Sorcery Scarcity
In fantasy realms where some people cast magic
And others do not, you can bet
There’s a reason or more, from a possible five,
That it’s not something everyone gets.
It could be that only a handful of people
Are born with potential for spells.
Whatever they have in their blood, magic training
Does nothing for anyone else.
If not, maybe anyone could learn the craft,
But it takes many years to perfect,
With exercise usually ending in failure—
A lifestyle I think I’d reject.
Perhaps it’s not hard to make wizardry happen,
But doing so carries great peril,
So neighbors and even the wizard in question
Could find themselves over a barrel.
Alternatively, there may not be such danger
Directly so much as from throngs
Of people convinced that the practice is evil
(Regardless of whether they’re wrong).
And finally, sometimes the gramarye’s whole
Possibility’s not widely known,
If only because of elitists who like
To keep power entirely their own.
And others do not, you can bet
