The plot thickens. I just got yet another jury summons, this one from the D.C. Superior Court. They want me for "one trial or one day" on October 19, two days before the U.S. District Court duty date. Can't say I'm surprised the two don't coordinate.

Now it seems I have options. I could (A) write to the Superior Court and say I'll have to defer or (B) show up and see what happens. If I'm on a 3- to 5-day trial, I'll quickly supply a documented reason not to report to the District Court. Let's compare the advantages.

A: The minimum number of days of service will be one rather than two.
B: I'll have an easier time deferring the next Superior Court summons.
A: The District Court trial is probably on a more important (and more interesting) subject.
B: This could be my ticket out of a very long period off the job.
A: Not many D.C. citizens are available and willing.
B: With my poor retention of spoken words, I would not make a good juror for longer trials.
A: Getting home sooner than usual all thru November may make NaNoWriMo easier.
B: Paying attention all day might drain me too much to take advantage of extra home time.
A: I might get on the District Court's bad side otherwise, excusing myself when I'd already said I could come. It'll almost be too late for them to register my excuse.
B: There may turn out not to be a conflict. Both courts could "win."

I'm sure there are more points to consider. Right now I'm leaning toward A, but what do you think?

I'm reluctant to offer an opinion because I could easily guess wrong and accidentally condemn you to a monthlong trial.

Wait, are you saying that two separate courts are trying to get you to attend at the same time?

Yes. They don't communicate enough with each other.
