deckardcanineFor the first time in maybe 12 years, I watched something from MTV. And only about a minute of it. Now, I fully expected MTV to be just as classless as it was in 1994, when I started watching on a regular basis. (Even then I didn't have much respect for the network.) But they still managed to surprise me unpleasantly -- with an uncensored S-word.
Is this common across cable now? I remember hearing of the big deal made when "South Park" on Comedy Central finally had permission to say the word with no bleep. And Comic Relief 2006 on TBS let it be compounded with "holy," yet some lines were still silenced.
I can think of only one English word (along with its derivatives) widely considered more profane. If that is in fact all that still gets censored, then I wonder why they bother. Anyone who knows the word would have no trouble guessing in any context.
