Poetry Week, Day 1

I'm continuing my tradition of a week of poetry to honor Mom's birthday. Since she was in Italy at the time, I saw fit to start later than usual. Every year (since 2009), one of my first poems in the week has pertained to a webcomic. She doesn't read many of those, but I remembered a good one: "Faux Pas."

A fox has lived since kit-hood in a barn and on the screen,
And thus he knows a fair amount about the humans’ scene.
The tradeoff was unfortunate: His instincts now are nil.
His films might make a killing, but he’s never made a kill.

One day there came a vixen from the woods outside the farm.
She thought to eat a hen until the fox said not to harm.
The food the humans gave them left her highly unimpressed,
Until she sampled ice cream; ooh, that flavor was the best.

Despite the many pitfalls from their epic culture clash—
In part from other critters acting mean or simply rash—
The vulpine two have loved each other to this very date.
But if you hope to see their kits, prepare for one long wait.

Tis true the fox was not impressed
And ice cream it did like the best
But once they had it in the door
It tossed its cookies on the floor

And here's a haiku about another furry comic:

Nerdy skunk
Slutty nerdy skunk
Put away your Transformers
And get in bed.

Haiku = 5-7-5
Your poem = 3-5-7-4

Nice try.

I'm too lazy to follow a formula.
