I rarely pay any attention to ads in the newspaper, but this time some of the ink smudged onto the next page and caught my eye. I turned back and read, "Back 2 School FASHION BLOWOUT! 97,000 DOZEN NEW FASHIONS."

Now, I don't mind companies in all industries giving prices like $19.98 to sound significantly cheaper than the nearest round number, and I even put up with the occasional "Eight of ten kids love [product]." But ninety-seven thousand dozen? Who talks like that? And is it really strategic in the first place?

When standardized test results in school offered suggestions for future careers, I consistently and unsurprisedly had advertising listed first (probably due to alphabetical order). If I ever do such a thing, you have my word that I will not dork around with numbers. Cross my heart and hope to be buried under 97,000 dozen donuts.
