Breakout Role
There’s a barefoot giant on an arcade screen.
He’s a nice guy, really, but he sure acts mean
When a player shows up to try to fix what he wrecks
With his big empty fists and early-’80s effects.
After hours, his co-workers still shut him out.
It bugs him to be seen as an all-time lout.
He decides to go AWOL to an alternate game
Where he’d get to be a hero and forgo his shame.
Such a move is more dangerous than you might think:
If he died in his own game, he’d be back in a blink;
Dying anywhere else would mean a permanent loss,
And what’s more, his proper place can’t work without a boss.
He meets another outcast, who’s cute but defective.
In giving her a hand, he gains a new perspective:
He doesn’t need glory to be sure that he’s good.
He might as well go back to breaking what he should.
