The Demonic Drudge

I’ve read about demons and other such spirits
Purported to trouble and kill.
In cultures all over, they’re fairly alike,
But there’s one that I find quite a thrill.

Hungarian lore has the liderc, a demon
With multiple functions and shapes.
The kind who jumps out has a penchant for labor
At home, such as cleaning the drapes.

You might think this demon a blessing, because
All he asks for is manual work.
But he finishes quickly and doesn’t like rest,
So he asks all the time like a jerk.

If you ever run out of ideas for his chores,
He may kill you and seek a new lord.
It’s best to assign an impossible task.
Oh, don’t worry: He’ll never get bored.
