The lore surrounding Hanukkah is not so widely told
Compared with that of Passover (I see it’s not as old).
It doesn’t lend itself as much to spectacle on stage.
Oh, sure, that King Antiochus put Hebrews in a rage,
But who’s the tale’s main hero? Mattathias? He’s the priest
Who started the revolt, but should the hero not at least
Survive to seal their victory? Well, Judah took control.
He simply didn’t come across like Moses on the whole.
The texts report one miracle: an extra week of light.
I know it was important, but it makes a boring sight.
I mean no disrespect; it’s just that now I understand
Why nothing like a seder comes when Hanukkah’s at hand.
