As you probably all know, yesterday was the centennial of one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history. It turns out that at least five people who were in San Francisco at the time are still alive, and they got together for a photo that's in my newspaper. Their first names are Chrisse, Frances, Herb, Olive, and Violet.
Notice that they're 60% botanical.
Now I'm thinking that the next time I name someone lovable -- child, pet, or fictional character -- I'll choose Iris, Ivy, Ginger, Daisy, Rose, Ash, Liana, or some other plant. The better to make them supreme survivors.
