Lots of good, or at least relieving, news for me this weekend:
1. In 2004 and 2005, I replaced the pictures in old advent calendars for my family, especially my sister, to open. The first time, I used most anything cute, be it real or cartoon; the second time, I used only photos of exotic animals, primarily from National Geographic. This year, with me having moved out, they were going to get a professional calendar and let that be it, but they waited too long and all the stores were out of good ones. My sister was upset at this (as well as later plans not to get a wreath). I had received an advent calendar from my Bible study group, but it's too religious for their taste. So I spent two about three hours yesterday afternoon with my backlog of NG's and the leftovers from previous years, some of which were too large and uncroppable for the given spaces. I won't be around for most of the times that the pictures get opened, but it was fun to make.
2. I finally got the last of the rent and security deposit money my former landlords owed me. Actually, it went to my PayPal account last Monday, but for some reason I didn't get an email notice like last time.
3. When I paid my current landlord for this month, I mentioned that the duct tape on my window was working but I still felt cold enough for an extra layer most of the time. He discovered an easy-to-miss vent that wasn't open. That oughta heat things up down here.
Off topic: As I was looking thru NG, I reread a quiz on marriages in the world. The answers said that Las Vegas has more than 100,000 marriages a year. It then occurred to me -- if the official city motto is "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas," then technically wouldn't all those marriages be invalid as soon as the couples left?
