After reading Richard's advice, I took another stab at that opening strip. I used a ruler more, found out how to increase the color tolerance when painting in PhotoStudio, and shortened my signature. Some things are probably not as good as before, but on the whole, I'm glad to have done the redux.

That is much cleaner.

There's probably going to be someone who says it, and it'll be me - I prefered the ruler-less version. It gives a good feel to the art to see it doesn't resemble like it was made by a computer. Besides, your hand drawn lines didn't look bad at all.

But if you feel like this way is better, then I'll not argue further. My main problem is really the jpg blurring the lines and colours. It's very noticeable and unappealing.

Hm, I've been using JPG for deviantArt simplicity, but maybe BMP would be better for Comic Genesis.

I'm of two minds about the ruler, partly because some people have hated its overuse in "For Better or for Worse." My alternative was to use rudimentary techniques left over from an art class. Maybe I can find a happy medium by using the ruler for sketches but not inking.

Sweet, needs work on line edges. Might I suggest, selecting the lines by color, expanding and fill the selections with a more solid black. Then, move that black, over to a white backdrop to remove the paper. Than you have a fill-ready format.

Might I suggest PNG, it tends to be very good with mondern compression programs.

I tried blackening the lines and thought the results were too bold. Also a lot of work, if I go on to the text.

yes, by all means use PNG. PNG uses lossless compression (meaning every single pixel is faithfully reproduced) whereas JPG is lossy (the final product is an approximation of the original image, using Fourier transforms and stuff; it's especially noticeable in large fields of solid color like you have in your comic, where you can see a sort of cloudy/blurry texture). GIF is also lossless, but PNG usually results in better compression (not to mention PNG is free and open-source, whereas GIF is proprietary, if you care about that sort of thing).

You can actually choose a graphite grey with automated method.
