Just to Ketch You Up

The other day, when there was still snow on the ground, I found two halves of a large tomato outside my door. They weren't splattered or evidently rotten; they just lay there, out of place.

This is particularly curious when you consider that a stranger would have a hard time approaching my door. There is a tall wooden gate that I always keep locked with a key. It would be a heck of a bother to climb over, and any tomato to be chucked that far would have to splatter, especially since my door is at the bottom of a set of stairs.

A more likely explanation is that the perpetrator came thru the main back door of the house. I suspect that one of my landlord's two young sons dropped the tomato halves. The boys do get noisily angry a lot, and I seem to recall their noise from outside the evening before, so perhaps one lost track of the produce in a physical fit of rage. It still seems unlikely, but I like the idea better than that they intended an unusual and lame shenanigan.

I decided not to tell my landlord about this unless it starts to recur frequently. Taking them to the trash can wasn't such an inconvenience. Mainly I'm just bemused.
