This Lent is going faster for me than the previous three. I guess sweets and electronic games don't mean as much to me as they once did. One thing, tho: I have to be careful not to take too much advantage of Sundays. My left thumb looks okay but has felt swollen ever since I got up this morning. That's what I get for taking on upper-level event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee for hours.

In other news, from The Express: "Sidney Poitier, a former president of Poland, a network journalist and an author are this year's Common Wealth Award winners, according to a trust committee member."

Did the sentence confuse you before you got past the first seven words? Me too. Good thing they didn't get clumsy with the commas and put one after "author."

Nonparallel sentence structure is actually a fairly minor offense in newspaper reporting these days. I've seen misspelled headlines and other mangled sentences that made my skin crawl.

Seriously. "What!? Sidney Poitier was president of Poland, too? huh? oh..."

I realize that it's minor -- doesn't compare at all with the "ground beef panties" of the past -- but it amused me here.

See, they're not selling for one day. They're selling a day itself. Select a date that isn't purchased, and you'll have your day.
