Tomorrow, my office has an all-staff meeting from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. This includes work during lunch.

I think I speak for all of us when I say this is a nightmare. My only consolation is that I'll have my supervisor's permission to leave work an hour earlier than usual, assuming it ends on time.

Oogh, all-day meetings are pure torture. I have to imbibe caffeine to keep from dozing off during the 2-hour ones, longer than that gets progressively worse.

I can't even remember. I looked at the detailed agenda and didn't register anything sensible. Something about some of the many changes coming from our merger. It must be pretty urgent to the company if they didn't split this into multiple meetings, but man, I can't see myself retaining anything important to me. I have enough trouble at 45-minute meetings.

Any suggestions for not getting so bored that I do something to get in trouble? Maybe I'll write poetry in my notepad. I might take one of the back chairs so no one sees what I'm writing.

I have had to be very creative about things to do during boring meetings recently. Writing poetry sounds like an excellent idea. I also enjoy doing math (I re-derived like the first 1/3 semester of abstract algebra in a recent series of meetings). Anything that involves being creative and writing, since if you're writing people just assume you're taking notes. (As opposed to something like doing crossword puzzles; it's pretty obvious that's what you're doing.)

I just realized, however, that this might come too late to give you ideas, since you're actually in the meeting right now. Well, I hope it's tolerable at least.

We're getting two 15-minute breaks, and this is one of them. I haven't done any writing yet, because we're going to have work to do in groups later, so I'm trying to absorb something for a change. :(

gah! An all-day meeting in which you have to do work in groups? That's even worse than I thought! My sincere condolences.

Where do you work again? You know, so I can avoid it.

Health Systems Research, Inc., an Altarum Company. Soon to become just Altarum.

Fortunately, the meeting ended 40 minutes early, and it wasn't nearly as hard to get thru as I expected.
