I just got a Comcast account to replace my soon-to-expire college email account. My mom didn't expect there to be anything in it at this point, but my dad left a couple messages...and sandwiched between them was a message from an unfamiliar name with a subject line that seemed to have nothing to do with me. Either someone is a very expedient spammer/virusmonger, or the sender confused me with someone of a similar name, coincidentally that soon after the mistake was made possible.

In my other account, my mom sent me a link she's added to her collection of articles on synesthesia: http://mutuslab.cs.uwindsor.ca/schurko/misc/synesthesia.html. She also suggested that I tell my LJ readers, only one of whom I know knows already, that I am a synesthete myself. My most pronounced symptom is the most widespread one -- associating letters with designated colors -- but I may also associate visual patterns with timbres, taste words coming out of my mouth (especially words I haven't used often enough to lose their flavor), and sometimes taste music or even visual art. It also probably has a part in giving me absolute pitch. It accounts for many things about me: my selective memory skills, my eye for detail, my distractability, my habit of isolation, my versatility in the arts...but unlike the prototypical synesthete, I am not a left-handed female and by no means weak in math skills (heritage is on my side there). Turns out the guy in the latest article has pretty much the same case as I do. Maybe I should connect with him.

I added "synesthesia" to my LJ list of interests. It invariably interests people, whether or not they themselves have it.
