Yesterday I was going to watch the 201-minute Giant, but the DVD Netflix delivered kept freezing and then skipping ahead. I gave up after about 15 minutes. Now I'd like to get a replacement, but the site gives me instructions I can't follow: "Go to the Billing Activity page in Your Account, and click on 'report a problem' next to the DVD that is damaged." I see no such icon or link, possibly because my subscription was a gift and there's no billing activity to report.

In truth, I can take or leave Giant. It seems to be the least cherished of the James Dean epics, and I've seen the other two. But the service still seems to have a glaring flaw.

After putting the DVD in the mail, I wondered how I would pass the time that evening. I wasn't up for cartooning, I'd done computer activity much of the day, I've been cutting back on video games, and I can read only so much at a time.

Then I noticed the aerobics DVD that my mom lent me and I had nearly forgotten. It had been too long since my last jog or other appreciable exercise. A moment's thought and I started getting ready for what I'd heard would be a more intense workout than usual from Leslie Sansone. And it was. Yet I found it pretty much exhilarating.

If God arranged for the DVD errors so that I would take better care of this temple, I heartily approve.
