The Express includes a "Today in History" section with four to seven events in each issue. The most awkward thing about it is the way each item starts in the present tense but, if prolonged, changes to the past tense.

One of today's items is awkward for a second reason:

1848: James W. Marshall discovers a gold nugget at Sutter's Mill in northern California, a discovery that led to the gold rush of 1949.

I realize that word didn't travel as fast back then, but more than a century?
