For the ~10 months I've kept this LJ, I've made it a policy not to talk politics, tho my mass reports of inept quotes do include some politicians' words. My idea was that there is enough politics already in other LJs (and indeed the rest of the Net) and I would have little to add.

Tonight I am breaking with the unofficial rule. This story is both serious and seriously underreported, and I am determined to spread the word as best I can:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/this_world/4038375.stm

I don't know what's more appalling -- that it's happening, or that my NYC friend had to get such an important NYC story from the BBC. The alternative is that the BBC has reported a morbid story with no basis in fact, which is almost as appalling.

And very, very unlikely. The BBC is the most respected news organisation in the world, I don't think they're going to blow their credibility on a hoax.

Which means...God.

Incidentally, I read a forum post earlier today describing "creative" photography by which the BBC misrepresented a riot. Still, misleading is different from fabricating.
