(no subject)
I sent Kieran back tonight. I'd made my decision a couple nights ago when I came home and saw that he had upended the dishrack. Truly, his destructive side was the biggest factor in my decision. But it's also nice to expect no major obstacles to my sleep tonight. Heck, there are lots of things I'll find more convenient again with the little maniac out of the way.
I do feel a little bad for him. Of his two previous owners, only the one less fond of him was there to take him in (the other returns tomorrow afternoon). I'm sure he's less happy now than he was yesterday. Still, this is temporary, and I predict that his next owner(s) will meet his needs better than any of us could.
Now, I don't entirely regret selecting Kieran in the first place. He got healthier in my care, thanks to the different vet, and I made sure to send his new medical information with him. I learned more about pet care that I plan to use on another cat in the near future. By abstraction, I may even have gleaned a bit about living with other people, whether peer roommates or babies.
But my next selection will not be primarily by coloration. I'd prefer someone older and less aggressive -- probably female for the latter quality. And after all, I have much more experience with female cats.
I tentatively plan to contact his owners again, partly to check up on Kieran, but also because of what I discovered tonight: One of them is a filmmaker! She talks a lot to boot, so we might have some very fulfilling chats.
