As much fun as the actual writing was, last month was pretty discouraging for me as a writer. I'd been reading No Plot? No Problem!, periodic NaNoWriMo emails (most recently from Piers Anthony), and Chicken Soup for the Writer's Soul. They try to be encouraging, but overall, they've reinforced the idea that I will never have a novel published.

Specifically, they talk about how hard it is to get published: how many people you have to pitch it to, how much time you may have to wait just for a response, how much of your writing may never be accepted, how much editing you can expect to do, and more. In theory, I have what it takes. I just don't have nearly the patience for the usual process or the talent that might be fortunate enough to abbreviate the process. If I tried, I'd fall into a funk.

In the past, I've been glad not to be scientifically minded, because scientists had to accept lots of failures and might never contribute anything worthwhile to the world. Shows what I knew about writing.
