Google indicates that I am not the first to associate Colonel Mustard and Sergeant Pepper. But it's less obvious that anyone else has connected them both to Private Mayo, nicknamed "Mayonnaise," from An Officer and a Gentleman.
In any event, the questions of why the military loves condimental surnames naturally follows. I theorize that it has something to do with the ill reputation of mess hall meals.
