This Christmas was marked by a fair amount of absent-mindedness in my family:

1. Dad forgot to cross a CD off his wishlist. It's always at work, so we couldn't very well tell that he had it. As a result, he got it again.

2. Mom let me buy the new copy from her to give to Dad. Then she forgot and bought another, so now he has three of the same CD. Thankfully, Mom did not forget to save the receipts, so he'll make exchanges.

3. I'm no better. I ordered a music book for Mom, then found that it was the soprano version when she wanted mezzo-soprano/alto. I paid extra for delivery by Monday. At first I thought it was coming too slowly, but on Wednesday I found the package hiding behind a pillar on the front porch so as not to tempt thieves. (I'm the only one home in the group house this week.) I quickly unwrapped the soprano book, found the wrapping unreusable, and used different paper for the final wrapping. Since I ran out of invisible scotch tape, I made do with less elegant packing tape. Today she opened... the soprano book. I could've left it in its first wrapping. Good thing the Amazon returns process was daunting enough to make me put it off.

Actually, my mistake may have been just as well. My sister Sarah decided that she wanted the soprano book, and I'd felt bad for relatively skimping on her presents. I had ordered her a CuteOverload! Page-a-Day Calendar and, almost on a whim, what I thought to be a CuteOverload! weekly planner (not as likely to be practical for her, given her current planner), but it turns out that the "Desk Calendar" is really just another page-a-day calendar, except that it's only six days a week. That too may be just as well: it'll be my first page-a-day calendar in years.

So it turns out I won't be exchanging anything after all. Unless one of my new computer games doesn't work on my new computer (knock on wood).

Those CuteOverload calendars make great gifts, I got one for Buzzy and one for my nephew too.

It's sad that Buzzy gets gifts best-suited for five-year-olds, but it's what he deserves most.

He spells worse than most five-year-olds.

Most five year olds are more mature too.
