Uch. I found earlier this week that with the flaws in the audio files, every minute of interview took about ten minutes to transcribe optimally. At this rate, I could just barely complete my freelance work in time. I've upped my price to just short of a default professional level. Thankfully, my client gave me permission to be freer with my use of "[inaudible]" instead of playing things back, and tonight I hit a pretty long stretch without major audio skips. But my pace didn't increase as much as I wished.

Does anyone know an audio player that lets you specify how many seconds to rewind? RealPlayer and Windows Media Player both have scrolls, which can take you back only by set intervals. For my current long-playing file, the slightest mouse nudge makes a seven-second difference at minimum, which can be a pain when I want to replay something from one second ago.

If you're dealing with uncompressed WAV files, it should be a relatively simple task to program a rudimentary player that'll do exactly what you need. I could even come up with one myself if you don't mind it being in Java. (And if you don't mind waiting years for it!)

Thanks for the offer, but I do mind waiting years, and I don't remember enough Java to build it myself.

What features would you be looking for in an audio player?

All I ask is good control over where I can start it from, like I describe.
