One nice thing that happened on my birthday: The Style Invitational in The Washington Post included one of my entries as an honorable mention in a contest.

Each year, they have a contest in which you come up with a humorous logical name for the offspring of two Triple Crown winners. The #1 winner, for example, was "Sir Phenomenal x Empire State = Knight Who Says NY."

This was only the second year they had a follow-up contest in which you do the same for the featured entries of that contest. You can see the details here.

I submitted 20 entries for the latter contest. The honorable mention among them was "Kona Silence x Lookn Mighty Fat = Java the Hutt." Frankly, that wasn't nearly my personal favorite. I don't have my list of entries anymore, but I remember a few I liked better:

Pinot Envy x Don Larceny = Green-Eyed Mobster
Chauvinist Pig x Dentist the Menace = Rude Canal
Boston Scrod x No, Not Torture = Cod Comfort
Meet Michelle x Nickel Returned = Pay the Pfeiffer
And That's Why x Cop a Feel = Reason for the Seizin'
Nickel Returned x Yes We Kant = Change We Can Believe In

Well, I can't complain. The Style Invitational always chooses something I would've rejected, sometimes even for the #1 slot. I don't mind having just an honorable mention either, since the prizes are always pointedly cheap and tacky.

Ooo, you have a gift for bad puns.

I'd recommend joining the dailycoyote LJ community, each week there's a coyote photo where you have to provide the caption, the best (worst?) caption wins a prize.

Are you the same one who suggested "Vulpine Mind Meld" for another entry?

Yep, I figured it wouldn't win because vulpine = fox. Lupine = wolf,
lapine = rabbit, but I don't think there's an alternative word for coyote.
