Urf, another nonbinding symbolic apology, designed to make the apologizers look noble and politically correct.

Stopping bad behavior and making amends for it are noble and noteworthy, empty apologies are not.

I dunno; I think any apology is better late than never, even coming from descendants of the perpetrators. You might be right about the apologizers' self-centered motives, but I prefer not to leap to the most cynical conclusion.
