Ahhhh. Once again, I have won NaNoWriMo a day early. And once again, the site's word counter is somehow ahead of Microsoft Word's -- by 193 words this time. Oh well, it wins either way. Besides, I haven't finished the story yet, and I expect to do so tomorrow.

In my plan to pursue publication regardless of personal dissatisfaction with the draft, I've come to realize something about my life for the last several years. Few things have made me feel more down and out than wasted efforts. As a result, I've been reluctant to try anything that could easily end up a wasted effort. What hadn't occurred to me was that total losses are actually quite rare. Failures tend to turn into learning experiences for somebody, at least. The real waste is in virtual non-efforts, like the many times that I've taken a break from writing to play Spider Solitaire or Mahjong Titans. Now I wish I knew how to delete them from Vista to avoid further temptation.

Bujold may be a better choice for writers.

I know it's under "Programs" in the control panel, but I'm not sure where to go from there (it seems to be different in every version). In 7 just clicking that brings up a list of available "things" you can do, and one of them is "Turn Windows Features On or Off".

I found a place to uninstall a bunch of programs, but not the games in question.

You could just delete the icons/shortcuts for the games, re-creating them would take some effort.

There's no desktop shortcut, and when I open the games folder, nothing can be deleted the intuitive way.

We all need a break from working, even if it's work we enjoy. I think the key is to get to the point of only using these things when you actually want some down time, not just out of habit (I'm not really there yet, but it seems like the way it should be).

You make a good point about losses not being total. I need to remember that more often really.

Also, congrats. :)
