Doing office work at home on weekends pays off for me. Thanks to my transcription last Saturday, I took part of yesterday off, as did my parents, to watch Up in the Air.
Now Jason Reitman may be my favorite filmmaker to have gained fame in the Aughts. First the similar Thank You for Smoking, then the dissimilar Juno, and now this.
Interestingly, when I thought of other directors/producers/writers who became household names in America in or after 2000, the main contenders for my fave were non-American: the so-called Three Amigos (Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro, and Alejandro González Iñárritu) and Peter Jackson. Michel Gondry might make the short list if I see more of his stuff. Maybe I'm overlooking someone obvious, but I know what I like.
