Sheesh. Yesterday I was planning on an aerobic workout. Instead, I played a video game until 2:30 a.m., knowing quite well that I couldn't sleep in this morning.

It's not that I lost track of the time; I looked at the clock every few minutes. Nor was it a matter of not being tired; I was actually dizzy when I got into bed. I'm not even sure that it was an attack of my on-again, off-again addiction. Part of me wanted to get dangerously tired.

On the surface, that's ridiculous. Exhaustion without exercise is no fun, right? Tired people are often hard to distinguish from depressed people.

But tell that to my immature side. The Deckard who wants to rebel against standard bedtimes. The Deckard who wants to be reminded the hard way why we shouldn't do certain things. The Deckard who wants to recapture childhood, or at least the college years, with a juvenile indiscretion that may not be attainable in later years.

If there's no "Downscale" update on Friday, or if the update is lamer and/or sloppier than usual, you may guess why.

I'm 40 and I still play video games a lot, but I always head to bed at 10:30PM on nights before work, even if I want to stay up later.

What game were you playing? They seem to be getting increasingly addictive in recent years.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Not as good as the first ToS, partly because of the Pokemon influence.

I've heard from several sources that Dragon Age is quite good, when you're done with that one.

Alas, it's not available on the Wii, and I'm loath to entrust my PC with new games.
