My parents have decided that after two years, Molly has become unfit to share their house. She's been protesting their last three-day vacation with deliberate misuses of bodily functions, reminiscent of the cat who protested my newborn presence in 1982.

The timing of this decision is especially challenging, because we're going to leave the country for two weeks on Sunday. The rescue site from which Molly came can offer only a cage in the next few days. We'd rather ask our co-workers to foster her, at least until we get back.

Or do any of you want to adopt her and live close enough to D.C. to do so very soon?

A coworker of mine had the same problem with a cat. :( I'm not sure what thought process is going on in the cat's head, but it's always a bad idea to aggravate the owners.

A couple of friends of mine have one with that habit, she might also do that when annoyed in some other way. Since her favorite spot to hit is the tub (which is really pretty easy to deal with as such things go), they sometimes leave about an inch of water in it to keep her out. They may or may not have any more insight than you about it, but I'm pretty sure they'd say "revenge".

My friends's family (more like a family of friends) had a cat that did this, when they all went on vacation. The problem was toned down by having me and my brother come and hang out at the house for a few hours every night when we were feeding her while they were gone. Though she wasn't a cuddly cat, she did want company.
