deckardcanineNo "Downscale" update for Friday, because I couldn't get my mind on it. Lately I've been troubled by a forum moderator who told me I've made too many "poor-quality" posts. He thinks I've ignored his prior warnings; the truth is that I have a different standard of quality, tailored by basically every other forum I've attended, and didn't know he and the rest of the staff don't approve my style. How would you feel if you suddenly learned that being your usual well-intentioned self had, not just a couple times but for the better part of a year, annoyed several people who thought you were essentially delivering trash, seemingly on purpose?
It doesn't help that the moderator in question has a screen name that's a better-known Pokemon spelled backwards. I feel like I'm getting scolded by an eloquent 11-year-old. (Admittedly, my screen name has only a slightly more mature origin.)
The good news is that the conflict is winding down. I have a better idea of what not to do on that forum, which he insists can't be called strict because they haven't issued me as many infractions as they'd like. It's rather too bad they didn't; I would've changed my tune sooner.
But having my casual conversational style verboten in even one little corner of the Net has reminded me that I shouldn't go looking for friends only on the Net. I really ought to engage in more RL interpersonal activities with people outside my family. Sounds like the best place for me to start is something related to movies, like volunteering at AFI.
Changing my routine to accommodate such will take up free time and energy, so I may have to cut "Downscale" to once a week or less for a while. No big loss; I doubt I ever had more than a dozen faithful readers at one time.
