Whew! I finally found a solution to the lack of audio, and I didn't have to spend any more money. After plugging in the new headset, I went to Control Panel -> Sound and set it as the default output device. Nobody told me directly to try this; I just deduced as much from other, oddly less helpful hints. It's not ideal, but definitely workable. And hey, maybe the discomfort of my ears will counteract the urge to play too long at a time.

Now the only new issue remaining with my computer is resizing images. Since the video card switch, everything has looked larger. I can shrink website visuals and desktop icons easily, but what about everything else?

Changing the video card may have reset your video resolution to a "default" value, like 800x600 or 1024x768, if the new video card driver wasn't smart enough (or wasn't able) to automatically detect and use your LCD monitor's "native" resolution. That's what this sounds like to me. You probably just need to double-check your settings.

Yep. right-click a blank spot on your desktop and you should find a "Screen Resolution" slider someplace. I'd recommend setting it as high as you can without causing screen flickering.

Aha! I had right-clicked the desktop but not thought to look under "Personalize." Thank you, Steven Roy and Nefaria!
