So much for my earlier prediction that The Adventures of Tintin would win Best Animated Feature: It's not even nominated. Instead we get two foreign numbers that presently have a 7.0 and 7.1 on IMDb, a bit lower than TAoT's 7.7. Sorry, Nefaria, but Rango will almost certainly win now.

Of course, just nominating an awkward nine films for Best Picture, one of them being Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (6.2), puts the current Academy's credentials into question.

My biggest disappointment about Rango is that it could have been very good, if they'd just made some minor story changes and made the lead character capable of expressing emotions. Half the time I felt like I was watching an overlong Geico commercial.

I think motion-capture isn't considered eligible for animation Oscars. I have a simmering loathing over cartoon voice actors being ineligible for Oscars; it'd probably never happen, but disqualifying them outright annoys me.

Only two songs nominated, yeesh. The Muppets song didn't do much for me; I haven't seen Rio yet.

Overall, this past year seemed to lack movies with bite to them. Too much formula, not enough spice.

The song was probably the best thing about Rio.

I can name a few films that critics consider masterpieces that either have gaping plot holes or major flaws, so yeah, I don't really trust the Academy myself.
