For the first time in my memory, I ate too much on Thanksgiving. A success for the cooks! It was also the first Thanksgiving we spent without my sister, who visited her boyfriend's family instead. And the first where we didn't spend the night but drove home soon after dessert. (My mom wasn't eager to shop on Black Friday at the mall in New Jersey.)

Not to mention the first Thanksgiving for cousin Myles, now nine months old and the life of the party -- someone asked what we talked about last year. Very happy, too: In the hours we saw him, he barely cried at all, thanks in no small part to the love he got. We'll see how long that lasts, knowing he's on the verge of teething.

Following our semi-tradition, Dad and I watched a Bond film on Black Friday. While unusually dark for the series, Skyfall is decidedly more Bond and less Bourne than Quantum of Solace; as a Bourne non-fan, I appreciate that. Javier Bardem outdoes himself as the first villain IMO to upstage Bond -- sort of a combination of Khan Noonien Singh and Heath Ledger's Joker. (Note that I've seen 16 of the 24 films, counting Never Say Never Again.) The ending piques my curiosity for the next entry.

I liked the beginning and ending of Skyfall, although the middle was rather muddled and odd. The beginning may have been the best bond intro ever. I do wonder how Bond survived that escapade though; like much of the plot, there seemed to be a lot of holes.

I don't consider it a plot hole so much as a concession to Bond's legacy of unreal survival. It stands out in a relatively realistic film, but again, this entry marks a return to tradition in some ways.

Is Skyfall the one with the sunlight weapon? (I feel silly asking)

No, it's the new one still in theaters. The title refers to a Scottish farm where Bond grew up.

Ah, good (I didn't much like the one I was referring to).

Ah, good to hear about Myles...but don't blame him if he becomes fussy soon, if my experiences with wisdom teeth are an indication, teething *hurts*
